Here we are at six weeks.
The puppies had a great 5th to 6th week and exhibited almost none of the fear responses that characterize the first fear imprint period. We were happily surprised today when the patio umbrella, which we had left up, got caught in a big gust of wind this afternoon and blew up, out of its stand, over the table and, BANG! onto the deck while the puppies were out and they were unfazed.
All the puppies have names now. They are as follows:
Ocerico Feija (Girl No. 1), named after the Foret el Feija in Tunisia.
Ocerico Fayaj (Brindle Boy), which is an Arabic name that means “peaceful and talented.”
Ocerico Faijan (Red Sand Boy), another Arabic name that means “lion” or “king.”
Ocerico Fezzan (Black Mantle Boy),after the Fezzan region of Libya that is home to the beautiful Wan Caza dunes of the Sahara Desert.
Ocerico Farjana (Girl No. 2), an Arabic name that means “beautiful soul.”
Their socialization has continued. We put a wading pool on the deck for them. They love its properties as a large chew toy, but so far, only Fezzan has dipped his feet into it. It seems inevitable, though.
They are playing with balls, playing in the grass, running through and over their tunnel, and they greeted our first guests with alacrity. Two of them have learned how to climb out of their exercise pen and run amok in our living room.
We tried to introduce them to clicker training this week, but, so far, they have snubbed hot dogs, cheese and beef liver as treats. The only thing they get excited about is peanut butter. We need to find something easier to use and will tackle this again this week.
Below is a short video, showing their escapades from the past week. Below that is their updated weight chart. We will try to get stacked photos today or tomorrow. The puppies had too much fun entertaining our guests yesterday before the light failed us to take the photos.
